FLUX 3 vs Seedance 2.5: the two summer releases, honestly compared

Updated July 30, 2026

One launched into a waiting list; the other has been demoed once on a stage. Neither is something you can use this afternoon — so this comparison is about what each has actually committed to, and which one to plan around.

The state of play

FLUX 3 (Black Forest Labs, launched July 23, 2026) is a single multimodal network: image, video with natively generated audio, and robot action prediction. Video is open to approved early-access applicants; the image tier, the public API, the pricing and the open weights are all still ahead of it.

Seedance 2.5 (ByteDance, previewed June 23, 2026) is a specialist video model with exactly one officially confirmed headline: 30-second single-shot generation. No release date has been announced; our estimate is late July to early August 2026.

Where each one should win

FLUX 3, on the evidence so far: anything where sound carries the shot. Audio generated in the same pass means impacts land on the right frame and dialogue is lip-matched — early testers consistently single out dialogue-heavy and dramatic scenes. It is also the only one of the two that will eventually give you stills and motion from one model, which matters if your pipeline currently runs FLUX.2 for frames and something else for movement.

Seedance, on its track record: fast, kinetic action with hard camera moves — the exact case early FLUX 3 testers say still favours Seedance. Add heavy multi-modal referencing, 4K, and ByteDance pricing that has repeatedly undercut the field. The confirmed 30-second one-take is a longer continuous canvas than FLUX 3 offers.

The number that matters
In Black Forest Labs' own preference evaluation, FLUX 3 beat Luma Ray 3.2 93% of the time and Runway Gen-4.5 77% — but landed at 52% against Seedance 2.0, the generation Seedance 2.5 replaces. BFL labels the chart a preliminary evaluation of an early pre-release checkpoint. Read it as: FLUX 3 arrives at parity with last year's Seedance, and 2.5 has not been measured by anyone.

What we test the day each one opens

  • The same prompt on both, sound on — our FLUX 3 prompt set and the Seedance 2.5 one-take set are already written for this.
  • Measured cost per finished clip, not list price — straight into the cost calculator.
  • The claims that are easiest to overstate: does FLUX 3 really hold 20 seconds, does Seedance 2.5 really hold 30, and does either survive a reference image.

What to actually use this month

Neither. If work is due, the shipping options are Veo 3.1, Seedance 2.0 and Kling 3.0 — see the current video model rankings and Seedance vs Kling. Plan around FLUX 3 if your work is dialogue and sound design; plan around Seedance 2.5 if it is action, references and unit cost.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use either FLUX 3 or Seedance 2.5 today?
No. FLUX 3 launched on July 23, 2026 but only into gated early access with no public API and no pricing. Seedance 2.5 was previewed on stage June 23, 2026 and has not been released at all. Anyone selling you access to either through a third-party generator is selling something else.
Which one is better?
Unknowable today — no one has run them head to head, and neither has entered a public arena. What's known points at different strengths: FLUX 3 generates audio jointly with the picture and reportedly handles dialogue-heavy scenes well, while the Seedance line leads on fast, kinetic action and multi-modal reference control. In BFL's own preference test, FLUX 3 scored 52% against Seedance 2.0 — a tie against the previous Seedance generation.
Which generates longer video?
Seedance 2.5, on the confirmed numbers: 30 seconds in a single shot versus FLUX 3's 20 seconds per generation. FLUX 3 chains clips into longer multi-shot sequences instead, and includes audio in the same pass, which Seedance 2.5 is expected to carry over from 2.0.
Which will be cheaper?
Neither has published pricing. History favours ByteDance: the Seedance line has consistently priced well below Google's Veo family, while Black Forest Labs has never sold video by the second before. We publish measured per-clip costs for both within hours of their APIs opening.
