Seedance 2.5: release date, confirmed specs, and API access

Updated July 16, 2026

AnnouncedOfficially previewed June 23, 2026. Expected release: late July – early August 2026 (our estimate, not ByteDance's). This page tracks exactly what's confirmed, what's rumored, and where you'll be able to use it.

What ByteDance has officially confirmed

Seedance 2.5 was previewed on stage at Volcano Engine's developer conference on June 23, 2026. One capability was demonstrated and explicitly confirmed: 30-second single-shot generation — one continuous take, generated in a single pass. That is a structural change from Seedance 2.0, which builds longer videos by extending shorter segments.

That's the full list. Everything else you may have read — including on sites presenting themselves as official Seedance products — is unconfirmed.

Rumored, not confirmed
Circulating claims include native 4K output with 10-bit color and an expanded reference-input budget (up to 50 assets). These trace back to third-party generator sites and social posts, not ByteDance. Plausible? Yes. Confirmed? No.

The baseline: what Seedance 2.0 produces today

To calibrate expectations for 2.5, here is the current model's output with the exact prompts used — multi-modal referencing is the line's signature capability:

Choreographed fight scene

Reference the character actions and camera language from Video 1, generate a fight scene between Image 2 and Image 1. Image 2 is the character on the left, Image 1 is the character on the right. With intense background music.

Logo reveal in a neon skyline

The background is a neon-lit futuristic urban sky corridor with vehicles and holographic ads intertwined. Reference the girl from Image 2, first use a medium shot to show the girl releasing silver floating lanterns with holographic projections, then the camera pulls back to reveal floating lanterns filling the sky. The scene gradually blurs, then the Logo from Image 1 appears.

Release timeline

  • Jun 23, 2026— Official preview at Volcano Engine's conference; 30s single-shot generation demonstrated.
  • Late Jul – early Aug 2026 (estimate)— Expected public release, based on ByteDance's historical preview-to-launch gap. Not an official date.
  • Launch + days — Third-party API availability (kie.ai, fal.ai) typically follows Volcano Engine within days for Seedance releases.

Where the API will land first

Based on how Seedance 2.0 rolled out, expect this order: Volcano Engine / BytePlus(ByteDance's own cloud) first, then aggregators like kie.ai and fal.ai. Consumer access runs through Jimeng (即梦) domestically and Dreamina internationally.

Risk to watch
ByteDance's global video API access was previously interrupted amid copyright disputes. If that repeats, international API availability could lag the China launch. We track this daily; the release calendar reflects any change within 24 hours.

Frequently asked questions

When is Seedance 2.5 coming out?
ByteDance has not announced an exact date. The model was officially previewed on June 23, 2026 at Volcano Engine's developer conference. Based on the gap between preview and release for previous Seedance versions, most observers expect late July to early August 2026. We update this page the day anything changes.
What has ByteDance officially confirmed about Seedance 2.5?
The on-stage preview confirmed 30-second single-shot generation — up from the segment-based approach in Seedance 2.0. Other circulating specs (native 4K, expanded reference inputs) have not been officially confirmed and should be treated as rumors.
Will Seedance 2.5 have an API?
Almost certainly. Seedance 2.0 is available through Volcano Engine/BytePlus and third-party providers like kie.ai and fal.ai. We expect the same channels for 2.5, with Volcano Engine first and third parties following within days. Note: global API availability for ByteDance video models has been interrupted before over copyright disputes, so a delay outside China is a real risk.
How much will Seedance 2.5 cost?
Unknown until launch. Seedance 2.0 API pricing lands well below Google's Veo family per clip, and ByteDance has consistently priced aggressively. We'll publish a measured cost-per-clip test within hours of API availability.
Can I try Seedance 2.5 for free?
Not yet — it isn't released. When it ships, official access will be via Jimeng/Dreamina and Volcano Engine. We'll offer a free watermarked test generation on this site the day the API opens. Join the waitlist on our generate page to get one email at launch.
