Seedream 5.0 Pro: specs, access and what it's best at
Updated July 22, 2026
ReleasedSeedream 5.0 Pro is ByteDance Seed's flagship image model. Its headline feature: it can decompose a generation into 10+ transparent-PNG layers — subject, text, background — with the areas behind the subject auto-inpainted, so a finished background is waiting when you slide it aside.

What it is
Seedream 5.0 Pro adds deep-thinking reasoning and real-time web search before drawing, then embeds control signals natively so you can click, lasso, recolor and swap materials with regional precision. ByteDance frames it as a shift from 'generation' toward 'precision control.'
It succeeds Seedream 4.5 (Q4 2025); a lighter Seedream 5.0 Lite shipped in February 2026.
What it's best at
Grounded, repeatable, brand-safe images — and any workflow where you need to edit afterward. The layer export and precision editing make it strong for infographics, high-density information visuals, and multi-relationship scenes that have to stay logically consistent.

Frequently asked questions
- Is Seedream the same as Seedance?
- No — but they're easy to confuse. Both are ByteDance Seed models one letter apart: Seedream generates images, Seedance generates video. Same team, different medium.
- What is layer separation?
- Seedream 5.0 Pro can output a scene as 10+ independent transparent-PNG layers (text, subject, background, etc.), auto-inpainting whatever the subject was covering — so each layer is a finished, editable element.
- How do I access Seedream 5.0 Pro?
- Via ByteDance's Volcano Ark experience center, and progressively through Doubao and Jimeng. Aggregators like fal.ai and kie.ai host the Seedream family (Seedream 4 currently, with newer versions rolling out).
